Contact the Department for Work and Pensions on their freephone Income Support telephone number 0800 055 6688 to discuss the application process before you can claim the UK benefit.
About Income Support
Income Support is a means-tested welfare benefit in the United Kingdom for people who are on a low income. However a claimant with savings that amount to over £16000 will not be able to receive Income Support. In order to claim Income Support, you must be between 16 and the state pension age while also working for fewer than 16 hours a week or have a reason that you are not seeking work such as illness or disability. Claimants of Income Support may also be entitled to further UK benefits such as Child Tax Credit and Carer’s Allowance but separate application processes will be required.
Income Support Freephone Enquiries – 0800 055 6688
Contact Jobcentre plus UK’s freephone Income Support department 0800 055 6688 to enquire about the process of making a new claim. Income Support is means tested meaning that your estimated rate will be based on factors such as a medical inability to work or whether you have financial dependents. The DWP representative will also be able to assist with the online application form if you are unable to send the documents through the post. If the DWP representative is satisfied that you are unable to work then they will help you book an appointment at your local Jobcentre before you can begin receiving payments directly to your account. However if you are currently receiving Income Support but are facing a change in circumstances then it is crucial that you inform the DWP representative so that you do continue to receive the benefit when you are no longer entitled to.
Call Costs and Opening Hours for new claims
The Department for Work and Pension’s Income Support team operates a 0800 freephone number meaning that all calls will be completely free of charge from both UK mobiles and landline telephones. If you would like to contact a DWP representative about your Income Support claim then you do so during opening hours of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday.
Track an existing income support claim – 0345 608 8545

Please note that this is a local-rate number which will be free if you have inclusive minutes, however if you do not have these on your tariff you will be charged a per-minute rate by your provider as well as an access fee.
